Emily Burton - Designer & Maker

Emily’s love of designing and making began at home with her family. As 6th generation on their family farm at O’Connell NSW, Emily and her brother grew up surrounded by the creativity, work ethic and business sense of their parents. Emily also enjoyed spending time with her grandmother, Pearl Burton, who was a skilled seamstress and known for her generosity with her time and expertise.

A creative pastime has now culminated in Peggy & Twig, a pearl jewellery label which offers timeless design and thoughtful craftsmanship. Designed and made in Australia, each piece is handmade in small batches with attention to detail and carefully sourced materials.

Having spent over ten years creating her own jewellery designs while studying and school teaching, Emily began designing and making pearl jewellery in 2019 after travelling abroad.

“I was drawn to work with pearls because they are timeless and classic. They are loved by women across many generations, and can be worn for any occasion.”

Peggy & Twig was featured during the Buy From The Bush initiative that launched in 2019, and has since been featured in Vogue Australia, InStyle Australia, Country Style and Graziher magazines. In 2021, P&T has been named as one of 15 Beautiful Australian Bridal Jewellery Labels by WedShed.

“I love designing and making pearl jewellery, and all that comes with it. I didn’t anticipate such a supportive small business community when I shifted from Primary Teaching last year. The new connections and friendships have been a lovely surprise.”

Infused with memories and stories to be shared, each Peggy & Twig piece is made near Trangie, NSW, where Emily now calls home with her fiancé, George.

“My hope is that Peggy & Twig pieces are worn and loved on special days and every other day, by pearl admirers from all generations.”
